Next Saturday 30th July sees the 11th edition of the Brompton World Championships in Central London on a street circuit that tackles eight laps around St James’s Park. The final is an evening event starting at 19:15 but tickets are available for the Brompton Hospitality Area on The Mall which opens at 13.00 where you can witness various competitions and heats for the “Fastest Fold”, “Bulldog Gin Masterclass” and Women’s Classique.
575 riders will make a Le Mans dash from the start line to unfold their bikes before mounting their steeds and racing the criterium style course. While ¾ length trousers and skirts are allowed, lycra is strict no-no so that riders have the opportunity to show off their finest tailoring. Last year saw a star studded line up with David Millar and former Time Trial Champion Michael “Dr Hutch” Hutchinson battling it out on their fold ups.
The hospitality area offers food and drink stalls, entertainment, gentleman’s grooming specialists to reshape those beards and moustaches as well as a great view of the finish line on The Mall. Tickets are £15 and include one alcoholic drink and food voucher. If it’s anywhere near as good as the Mr Porter London Nocturne folding bike race it should be a great evening out. Tickets are available from the Brompton Events website.
