Danny van Poppel looked unstoppable in the final metres of Stage 4 of the Tour de Suisse but a dangerous right turn 150m before the finish line nearly toppled him.

Van Poppel demonstrated his excellent bike handling skills when he almost crashed into race leader Peter Sagan on sharp bend during the final sprint to Champagne, averting a potentially devastating pile up. The stage was won by Argentinian Maximiliano Richeze, while van Poppel eventually finished in 26th place.

Many riders took to Twitter to voice their concerns that race organisers had placed such a tight corner at the very end of the race, while others praised van Poppels' skills.

IAM Cycling's Larry Warbasse said: "This is INSANE! @Dannyvanpoppel I think that goes down as one of the best saves...in a long time!" Team Sky team mate, Geraint Thomas wrote: "Lesson of the day, never play 'Buckaroo' against @Dannyvanpoppel #skills #rideitcowboy"
